Time for just a little extra Glengoyne

At all times cherished these tales in regards to the Distillery being within the Highlands whereas the warehouses would lie reverse the highway, so within the Lowlands. However I do not suppose the very sensible house owners have ever tried to play any sort of advertising and marketing spiel with that idea. Anyway, let’s kick this off with a more recent rendition of the favored 12…

Glengoyne

Glengoyne 12 yo (43%, OB, +/-2021)

Glengoyne 12 yo (43%, OB, +/-2021) Three stars

I have not tried the 12 since round 2012. It was once an excellent dram in my e book (WF 84). Color: straw. Nostril: pure barley, with touches of citronella and even coriander leaves, just a little recent metallic (iron), then wee whiffs of spent grapes (sherry?) and toasted brioche served with custard. Beautiful. Mouth: typical entry-level malt whisky that is not that entry-level, sitting considerably between Glenlivet and Glenfiddich, solely with just a little extra tartness and extra grassy natural teas (cherry stem, peach leaves…) Extra oak spices have a tendency to return out afterward, making it maybe a tad bitter(ish) and just a little bitter(ish). End: somewhat lengthy, grassy, with some cinchona, some spritz, ginger beer… Feedback: excellent, as anticipated, I am much less a fan of the greeny and spicy palate. I had believed it could be just a little rounder.

Glengoyne 'The Legacy Chapter Two' (48%, OB, 1st fill oloroso sherry, bourbon and refill casks, 2020)

Glengoyne ‘The Legacy Chapter Two’ (48%, OB, 1st fill oloroso sherry, bourbon and refill casks, 2020) Three stars and a half

Angus had tried Chapter One and has been comparatively enthusiastic (WF 85). We have misplaced an age assertion after the 12 however we have earned 5 extra-% vol. Is {that a} whole lot? Let’s examine… Color: pale gold. Nostril: not in contrast to the 12 however purer, sort of zestier, with a fair nicer pressure and extra apples. We’re instantly reminded of some older bottlings of younger Glengoyne, with this very good freshness. Orange salad, tarte tatin. It is much less cakey than older expressions, although. Mouth: two leagues above the 12, with extra roundness, maple syrup, triple-sec, butterscotch and shortbreads, apple pie, and solely then just a little extra oak spices (cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper). End: very good, with out much less of the bitterish sourness that we had discovered within the 12. Feedback: very good certainly, but it surely’d somewhat have a full-bourbon Glengoyne. These middle-sherried drams are usually not at all times extraordinarily fulfilling, I might say.

Glengoyne 19 yo 1996/2016 (55%, Cadenhead, Wine Cask, Château 'Lafitte', 240 bottles)

Glengoyne 19 yo 1996/2016 (55%, Cadenhead, Wine Cask, Château ‘Lafitte’, 240 bottles) Two stars

Ah, the Scots and the names of nice wines! Eaglesome/Cadenhead/Springbank had already granted us with some ‘Barollo’ previously, this time it’s ‘Lafitte’ whereas the title of the true nice Grand Cru of Pauillac would somewhat be ‘Lafite’. Ought to we count on some Mooton, Ozone, Margot or Lattour anytime quickly? Or why not How-Brion? However yeah, who cares, and what’s extra, the whisky is not pink… Color: amber. Nostril: quite a lot of demerara sugar, tarte tatin as soon as once more, black nougat, pancake sauce, then extra spices, ras-el-hanout, allspice, then savoury smells, Bovril, sweeter gravy, onion soup… That is all completely pretty, with none two-penny crimson berries from the wine. Having mentioned that, I bear in mind a sister batch that had been horrible on the palate, so we will see… With water: mushrooms popping out, baked eggplants, meat, copper cash, then just a little soapiness. Say Dove (yeah proper). Mouth (neat): w.h.a.c.okay.y. Enormous pepper and ginger combined with strawberries. Schweppes Strawberry, does that exist? Move, and shortly… With water: nah, cleaning soap and grass everywhere, turmeric, wine gums with pepper, Kriek beer, orange pores and skin…. End: somewhat lengthy, with some bitter spices. Feedback: I am certain some pals would have cherished this but it surely simply would not work on my poor palate. In my e book, this can be a good instance of why malt and crimson wine ought to by no means meet. It is me. The nostril was nicer.

Glengoyne 36 yo 1984/2021 'Russell Family Single Cask' (50.2%, OB, refill sherry butt, cask #1549, 402 bottles)

Glengoyne 36 yo 1984/2021 ‘Russell Household Single Cask’ (50.2%, OB, refill sherry butt, cask #1549, 402 bottles) Five stars

As soon as once more, we have now to thank the Scottish distillers and their households for being able to half with their private casks; how very beneficiant, on condition that what’s extra, this child stems from ‘the slowest stills in Scotland’. Color: deep gold. Nostril: actually quite a lot of butterscotch and roasted chestnuts at first, chestnut honey too, earlier than Jaffa desserts and pipe tobacco would begin to take over, along with just a little pumpkin soup and massive black raisins (Corinth). Touches of violets, liquorice and menthol, plus some beeswax and simply furnishings polish ultimately. Fairly great, elegant…  With water: excellent herbs, lemongrass, a wee trace of saponin, spearmint, dandelion syrup, mullein… Mouth (neat): superbly sizzling given its age, with quite a lot of marmalade and dry white within the arrival (vin jaune), walnuts, walnut cake, Seville oranges, then touches of star anise and simply yellow chartreuse. Great peppery and barely piney spiciness. With water: impeccable outdated vin jaune. Luggage of walnuts, with flying colors, a wee contact of mustard and yellow curry, with every thing excellent on all accounts. End: somewhat lengthy, superbly drier, with touches of muscovado and at all times these splendid walnuts. Previous whiskies are likely to get a wee tad weaker at this stage, not this one. Love these notes of Spanish ham within the aftertaste (belotta). Feedback: fairly elegant outdated Glengoyne, matured to perfection for the great thing about sport.
