Olympic Japanese trios, Day 4/8
Mars’s younger peated Tsunuki was actually somewhat one thing, so possibly would we go on with a little bit extra whisky from the Tsunuki ageing warehouse…

Mars Komagate 'Tsunuki Aging 2018' (57%, OB, Japan, 1462 bottles)

Mars Komagate ‘Tsunuki Ageing 2018’ (57%, OB, Japan, 1462 bottles) Four stars

This was distilled in altitude at Shinshu and matured at Tsunuki ageing cellar down within the south, in bourbon, sherry and umeshu casks. I consider they do annual releases. The popularity (and the worth) is excessive. Color: gold. Nostril: a little bit sizzling and spirity, maybe, with fairly some varnish and even glue, then a big bag of cider apples and the greenest pears, plus certainly inexperienced plums, damsons that are not too ripe, uncooked quinces… Surprisingly austere and exhibiting self-restraint this far. With water: bready notes popping out, raisin rolls, pilsner, chalk, maybe a contact of very younger brandy… Mouth (neat): very fats mouth really feel, nearly thick, on actually loads of limoncello and uncooked wooden. Luggage of fruit peelings too, inexperienced tea, peppermint… A little bit bubblegum too but it surely stays somewhat austere when undiluted. With water: no huge modifications, it stays fairly minimal. Japanese aesthetics somewhat than Scotch whisky taste-alike? End: medium, nonetheless minimalistic. Chalk, gras, vanilla, beer. Feedback: wait, somewhat Bauhaus whisky? Actually glorious however I would say it is missing complexity to make it to the highest of the 80s (not to mention the 90s).

SGP:451 – 85 factors.

Mars Komagate 'Tsunuki Aging 2019' (56%, OB, Japan)

Mars Komagate ‘Tsunuki Ageing 2019’ (56%, OB, Japan) Four stars

Identical set-up besides that apparently, that is solely ex-bourbon and sherry. Adios umeshu, sob… Color: gold. Nostril: extraordinarily shut, solely a wee tad rounder, with a little bit extra vanilla and rather less glue. Maybe a contact of sulphur. Apart from that, now we have an analogous growth on inexperienced apples and pears, plus three or 4 raisins (in the entire vat). With water: somewhat rubber than sulphur. Not precisely disagreeable. Mouth (neat): tenser, brighter, zestier than the 2018, extra vertical and rather more on lemons and granny smith, plus some chalk and inexperienced walnuts. We name these blade-y malts  in that case that might be a katana I suppose. With water: superior if a tad unidimensional. A contact of pineapple maybe, IPA, bread, chalk, blood oranges, paraffin. Heather honey, mead, a number of sultanas once more. End: medium, somewhat tender. Real hazelnut paste (not that model) and lemon marmalade. Feedback: a notch extra to my liking. Excellent, really, simply not very broad, which can in all probability occur when the whisky’s older.

SGP:551 – 86 factors.

By the best way, the primary within the collection, the 2013, scored 86 in my guide as nicely. However let’s strive a single cask if you happen to please…

Mars Tsunuki 2017/2020 (61%, OB, Japan, for Kirsch Import, 2nd fill barrel, cask #5108)

Mars Tsunuki 2017/2020 (61%, OB, Japan, for Kirsch Import, 2nd fill barrel, cask #5108) Four stars

Maintain on, this isn’t solely from the Tsunuki warehouses, it was distilled on the subtropical Tsunuki Distillery as nicely. It is also to be famous that Kirsch Import have had a number of fairly sensible and ‘off the overwhelmed tracks’ bottlings within the current months/years. Might I humbly say ‘bravo’? Color: white wine. Nostril: oh nicely, I would not say there are huge variations right here, that is simply as austere, minimalistic, grassy and spirity. However then once more, 61%, child. With water: some chalk, moss, roots and branches. A contact of mint, one among eucalyptus. I suppose we may do inhalations with this and treatment any chilly. Mouth (neat): undecided I ought to. Nicely, it is a high-voltage candy eau-de-vie de barley with some vanilled sugar coating and a sense of contemporary mirabelle eau-de-vie. Roughly. With water: sugar up. Little easter eggs, marshmallows… End: similar. Moderately lengthy however very candy. Bonbons, jellybeans… Feedback: one other one which’s super-excellent however maybe nonetheless a tad… minimalistic?

SGP:641 – 85 factors.
