October nineteenth – Château La Nerthe, one of many oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape courting again to no less than 1560, has launched their new label Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Blanc. A wine of the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation, this new white mix makes use of Grenache Blanc (30%), Viognier (30%), Roussanne (30%), and Marsanne (10%). Neither Viognier nor Marsanne are allowed in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, making this mix distinctive for Château La Nerthe.

Of Château La Nerthe’s 227 acres of vineyards surrounding its château, the grapes for Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Blanc are planted on the very best terraces within the Domaine de la Ranjarde winery within the Côtes du Rhône appellation, the place common vine age is over 25 years previous. Right here, the land is surrounded by inexperienced oak bushes, which has given rise to the purple and white Les Cassagnes labels: cassagnes means “planted with oak bushes” in native dialect.

Château La Nerthe Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Blanc (SRP: $23.99) is elegant and fruit pushed. Viognier provides finesse and wealthy aromas of honeysuckle, apricot, and mango. Marsanne is commonly blended with Roussanne, and collectively they ship aromas of yellow and white fruits and flowers. Aged on the lees for nearly six months with common stirring, the wine is well-balanced and chic. Like the remainder of the property (since 1998), Les Cassagnes de La Nerthe Blanc is licensed AB Natural. Get pleasure from now or inside three years.

Considered one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s oldest estates, archives affirm Château La Nerthe’s existence as early as 1560 and counsel an much more distant previous courting to the daybreak of the area’s wine tradition within the 12th century. All terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape are in a single property and planted with all 13 official grape varieties. The property’s distinctive sloped terroir has soils of sandy clay topped by a layer of ‘galets’ – giant, spherical, well-worn stones that had been carried down from the Alps by glaciers over the past ice age. The wines of Château La Nerthe are an expression of the varied terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, vinified with magnificence and finesse. In 1998, the winery was licensed AB Natural.
