Bourbon lovers and beer followers alike can but once more increase their glasses to the discharge of the 2022 version of Brooklyn Black Ops (11.5 % ABV), a collaboration between craft beer innovator Brooklyn Brewery, and Kentucky-based bourbon model, 4 Roses Distillery.
The collaborative brewing partnership between Brooklyn Brewery and 4 Roses dates again to 2019 and stems from a longstanding friendship between Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster, Garrett Oliver and 4 Roses COO and Director of Operations, Ryan Ashley. The much-anticipated 2022 version of Black Ops – a Russian Imperial Stout – was aged for roughly 9 months in 4 Roses Small Batch Bourbon barrels, hand-selected by 4 Roses Grasp Distiller Brent Elliott, leading to a beer with simply the correct trace of bourbon character.
“Black Ops is in contrast to some other barrel-aged imperial stout. Quite than being thick, candy, closely roasted, and cloying, this beer is brisk and light-weight on its ft, regardless of its 11.5% ABV,” explains Brooklyn Brewery’s James Beard Award-winning Brewmaster, Garrett Oliver.
“Collaborating with Garrett has led to extraordinarily distinctive, prime quality releases over the previous 4 years and the brand new version of Black Ops isn’t any exception.” stated Brent Elliott, 4 Roses Grasp Distiller “The mellow fruit, spice and oak tones of the Small Batch Bourbon barrels completely complement the wealthy, malty character of the Russian Imperial Stout, creating layers of complicated flavors that each beer and bourbon drinkers will recognize.”
GSN’s Remarks: A ton of vanilla on the nostril, with a dry espresso-like bitterness counter balancing the sweetness. A wealthy, enveloping mouthfeel with a heady dose of alcohol that teeters simply on the sting of being intense. A fairly festive libation that has a number of darkish notes of espresso, cocoa, burnt caramel and the piece de resistance, bourbon. The 4 Roses comes via fairly clearly and provides a spirited air to the brew. We suggest this one with creamy or butter ahead desserts. GSN Score: A+
