MGP veteran Greg Metze’s Outdated Elk line received its first Infinity Mix in 2021 (we missed it), and 2022 noticed a second model popping out. A fifth of the 2022 launch is made up of the prior mix, which makes it certainly “infinity” in nature. What else is within the combine? So… a lot of wheat whiskey this go-round… and one hopes that doesn’t imply that had a ton left over and needed to wrestle to determine what to do with it. (That stated, the Wheat Whiskey is spectacular, so who can complain?) Fingers crossed, let’s style:
Stable nostril: Nutty, with a lot of vanilla, mild notes of herbs, and a stony, earthy component. Brown butter and cinnamon construct with time in glass, giving the whiskey one thing of a light-weight cinnamon toast character. Partaking on the palate, the wheat whiskey’s butterscotch and almond notes hit onerous instantly, although the expertise is smooth and supple even at full proof, straight from the bottle. Extra of that cinnamon perks up because the end builds, the whiskey falling again on marzipan notes and a gritty contact of charred marshmallow on the fade-out.
There’s lots of similarity between this and Outdated Elk Wheat Whiskey, the bourbon components working effectively to mood a few of the Wheat Whiskey’s sweetness.
