From the bars at Asheville Correct and Little D’s, two locally-owned informal eating places in Asheville, NC, comes the right Lion’s Tail cocktail.
First showing in The Cafe Royal Cocktail Guide, the traditional Lion’s Tail took place throughout Prohibition within the Nineteen Thirties and options allspice dram, a liqueur made with rum, pimento berries and spices, alongside bourbon, Angostura bitters, easy syrup, and contemporary lime juice. The Lion’s Tail is a singular drink that’s been principally ignored till lately.
Little D’s and Asheville Correct’s tackle the traditional libation provides cardamon bitters, making it excellent for the winter season with wealthy, spiced, fragrant flavors!

Lion’s Tail
by Asheville Correct and Little D’s
Substances
- 1 1/2 oz. Bourbon
- 1/2 oz. St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram
- 1/4 oz. Demerara Syrup
- 3/4 oz. Lime Juice
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 2 dashes Cardamom Bitters
Preparation
- Shake all substances.
- Pressure and pour right into a coupe glass.
- Garnish with a lemon twist.
