We had been quite impressed with some new Tullibardines just a few weeks in the past, particularly with their beautiful new 15 years outdated. So, it is a little follow-up session, with two OBs and one IB or two. (picture Michael Kramer)

Tullibardine

Tullibardine 2005/2020 'The Murray' (46%, OB, Double Wood Edition, The Marquess Collection, 17550 bottles)

Tullibardine 2005/2020 ‘The Murray’ (46%, OB, Double Wooden Version, The Marquess Assortment, 17550 bottles) Four stars and a half

No worries right here, ‘double wooden’ doesn’t imply it has been completed in any form of approach, it’s only a vatting of bourbon and sherry. Color: gold. Nostril: distinctive whiffs of ripe bananas, patchouli and eucalyptus at first, then mead and touches of white vermouth and well-aged chardonnay. Nothing in opposition to that, in any respect. Additionally somewhat wooden smoke and really small touches of caraway, cinnamon and cloves. Mouth: as soon as once more, a particular type, with rotting tropical fruits upfront (that is a very good factor, thoughts you!) plus liquorice and a wee tar. Slightly banana wine, as they often make within the West Indies, touches of cedarwood, marmalade, walnuts from the sherry,  little espresso, somewhat cocoa… This one’s actually complicated. End: medium, spicier since that is all ex-first fill, however balanced and by no means drying. Juicy Fruit, juniper, cinnamon and somewhat mint, or a dollop of cough syrup. Feedback: much less a shock than final time. I consider it is unbelievable how they upgraded this identify, from Economic system on Aeroflot (just a few many years in the past) to First Class on Singapore Airways.

SGP:661 – 88 factors.

Tullibardine 2008/2021 'The Murray' (56.1%, OB, Cask Strength, The Marquess Collection, 17550 bottles)

Tullibardine 2008/2021 ‘The Murray’ (56.1%, OB, Cask Power, The Marquess Assortment, 17550 bottles) Four stars

This appears to be totally ex-bourbon, so we should always get even ‘nearer to the spirit’, even when it was 1st fill bourbon. Color: white wine. Nostril: maybe much less eccentric than its bro, extra on basic vanilla, brioche and biscuit, apple pie, mirabelles, peanut oil, rhubarb… No ripe bananas and outdated Meursault this time, that is easier and ‘cleaner’. With water: much more so. Apple tarte, vanilla cream, hops and the standard drop of limoncello. Mouth (neat): candy, fruity, on yellow and orange wine gums and IPA. There. With water: as soon as once more, apple tarte, vanilla cream, hops and the standard drop of limoncello (that was lazy at greatest, S.) End: medium, candy, refreshing, quite on apples and lemon liqueurs. Hints of vanilla and sawdust within the aftertaste. Feedback: completely wonderful, simply a lot easier, extra elementary than its brother.

SGP:651 – 86 factors.

Tullibardine 13 yo 2007/2021 (52.9%, Maltbarn, bourbon cask, 160 bottles)

Tullibardine 13 yo 2007/2021 (52.9%, Maltbarn, bourbon cask, 160 bottles) Four stars

Maltbarn already had some wonderful Tullibardines. Color: white wine. Nostril: we’re clearly shut, however this one has just a few extra bitter notes, some chardonnay, some porridge, some sourdough, even some wooden smoke… It’s truly a wee tad greater, however would stay very near the second Murray. With water: some café latte, limoncello, croissant and somewhat recent sawdust. Oak, naturally. Mouth (neat): it’s now the identical whisky, actually. Identical wine gums, hops and apple pie. With water: a carbon copy of The Murray Cask Power. How very humorous (BTW, it isn’t ‘Jim’ Murray – though I’d quite prefer to see The Broom, The Nouet or The MacLean, to not point out The Jackson). End: identical. Feedback: identical. This does not occur usually however excellent news right here, the whiskies are wonderful.

SGP:651 – 86 factors.

Tullibardine 26 yo 1973/2000 (49.6%, Signatory Vintage, sherry, cask #2401, 278 bottles)

Tullibardine 26 yo 1973/2000 (49.6%, Signatory Classic, sherry, cask #2401, 278 bottles) Four stars

Color: gold. Nostril: think about some lemon tarte with meringue, somewhat butter cream, honeydew melon, whiffs of thyme tea and pine resin, yellow chartreuse, a contact of stearin, a wisp of elderflower syrup… After which simply assorted grapefruits, with solely echoes of cardboard, or a bunch of outdated magazines. Delicate, marginally unusual, beautiful. Mouth: in all probability extra ‘deviant’, not for the more serious this time in any respect, even when it bought frankly grassy and cardboardy, with additionally notes of amaretti, bitter almonds… Identical fruits as on the nostril, however quite their peel than their flesh. Zests, amontillado, a wee saltines manzanilla-style… End: fairly lengthy, with some burnt and bitter herbs plus some paraffin, which is a lot better than it sounds. Extra bone-dry amontillado. Feedback: an excellent fighter, atypical and now somewhat out of vogue. Not for the nostalgic whisky fanatic!

SGP:461 – 87 factors.
