Filliers 10 yo ‘Batch 1’ (43%, OB, Belgium, European sherry oak, 2000 bottles, 2019) 
This child from the previous makers of Goldlys, as I perceive all this they modified the title of their single malt whisky and are actually utilizing the title of their… Distillery. Is sensible, would not it. Color: gold Nostril: some spicy raisin cake, I’d say. Somebody might have mixed some raisin roll with some cinnamon roll, and that labored. Wee touches of amontillado, a bit of wooden, smoke (boy-scout bonfire), a bit of maple syrup and chestnut honey, heat praline, and only a tiny contact of nail polish remover. Mouth: maybe a wee tad oaky/teaish at first, however the nuts and the raisins maintain it reasonably straightforward. Allspice, cinnamon, contact of curry, nutmeg… End: medium, nice, malty and spicy. Cinnamon and nutmeg within the aftertaste, with touches of triple-sec. Feedback: I imagine it is by no means straightforward to get the oak proper if you bottle at 40 or 43% whilst you you’ve got been utilizing some lively casks. No downside right here.

Artesia ‘Restricted Version Porto’ (45%, OB, France, LMDW, Conquête, 1300 bottles, 2021) 
We have already tried one in all these new Artesia from the North of France and reasonably appreciated it. However watch this one, it is first frolicked in new oak (cool set-up, that is the other of what most whiskymakers are doing), then in Port wooden. Color: mild gold. Was it white Port? Nostril: no crimson Port in sight, hurray, reasonably a number of weissbeer. Actually loads. Then pears all over the place, you’d nearly imagine that is williams pear eau-de-vie that is spent a while in wooden. The factor is, I am a sucker for pear eau-de-vie. So, no complains at this level… Oh and a few sudden whiffs of orange wine. Actually. Mouth: how very humorous, you’d imagine, certainly, that that is superb de vin orange blended with pear spirit and, as soon as once more, weissbeer. Nice enjoyable right here, that is each very totally different and superb, for my part. As soon as once more, a bottling energy of 45/46% is doing wonders. End: medium, and breadier this time. Pear-led fruitcake and apricot pie, let’s consider. Feedback: glorious. I’ve nearly written ‘unexpectedly glorious’.

Mourne Dew (43%, OB, Irish single malt, +/-2021) 
Apparently, this triple-distilled whiskey stems from an actual proprietary distillery (you by no means know today) and was shortly completed in ex-IPA casks. Why not… Color: pale white wine. Nostril: we’re not too removed from the Frenchie within the sense that pears and beer are competing right here, earlier than touches of grapefruits and chalk would chime in. Very nice, feeling pure. Mouth: a bit of odd this time, sort of perfumy, with notes of lavender bonbons (and even ice cream) after which simply grenadine. Violet sweets, poppy sweets, Mexican agave lollipops, tequila and gin… End: medium, candy. Violets and juniper. Feedback: very uncommon in your palate, a bit of un-whisky however good enjoyable for positive. Maybe on ice?

Copper Republic ‘Bourbon Cask End’ (43%, OB, South Africa, single grain, +/-2020) 
Solely distilled from South African maize. These good people are additionally making rooibos gin, which is one thing I really want to attempt. No too positive they distil every little thing themselves, having mentioned that. Color: mild gold. Nostril: custard with a bit of nutmeg, overripe apples, a bit of hay, maybe rooibos (after getting these items in your head…) and root greens. Notes of ginseng. Mouth: mild, grainy, I am reminded of Cameron Brig. Some chicory espresso, café latte, a bit of butterscotch… It is all fairly skinny, however not disagreeable in any respect. End: shortish however with good notes of espresso liqueur. Feedback: superb grain whisky! Not a lot so as to add, besides that it will beat fairly just a few younger Scottish grains in my e-book.

Uncle Nearest ‘1884’ (46.5%, OB, USA, Tennessee whiskey, +/-2021) 
A kind of ‘premium’ manufacturers that include foot-long tales that do sound a bit of ‘Madison Avenue’. Sourced Dickel? It is mentioned to be solely 4 years outdated. Color: gold. Nostril: pears, pineapples, pink pepper liqueur, then sawdust, toasted oak and sponge cake. Pecan pie. A really nice nostril, lighter and probably subtler than different very younger bourbons. Mouth: good, candy, reasonably recent, with touches of oranges and bananas, solely tiny hints of coconut, then maple syrup and honey, pancake sauce, caramel, the tiniest drop of cologne (lavender, rye?) … End: medium, a bit of oakier than anticipated. White pepper and cinnamon within the aftertaste, in addition to café latte and maybe a drop of strawberry liqueur. Feedback: an actual superb drop.
