Little duos, at the moment 15 12 months previous sherried Pulteney

Pulteney
Let’s drive North, to Wick, and have our a hundredth Pulteney. Sure, solely 100 Pulteneys inside virtually 20 years, what a disgrace, it is as if the whisky world ended at Brora/Clynelish. Not proud in any respect, I say I deserve blame and gibes. In the meantime…

Pulteney 15 yo 2006/2021 (52.6%, Hart Brothers, Cask Strength, first sherry butt filled)

Pulteney 15 yo 2006/2021 (52.6%, Hart Brothers, Cask Power, first sherry butt stuffed) Four stars

It’s as if somebody’s given directions to the printer by phone. I imply, first sherry butt stuffed, is not that slightly first fill sherry butt? Or was it, certainly, the primary sherry butt they ever stuffed? Anyway, good enjoyable, love Hart Bros. Color: amber. Nostril: it was some candy sherry, apparently. Many raisins, dried figs, dried dates, maybe even moscatel, then ginger cookies and a few salted fudge. A coastal facet stays, it isn’t heady. With water: a dusty contact, in any other case previous oloroso, meat sauce, Maggi and hoisin sauce. It went from very candy to fairly savoury. Mouth (neat): a salty and rubbery contact at first, then some thickish candy ale, rancio, chocolate sauce (mole), flavoured pipe tobacco (cherry), fruitcake (Alsatian beerawecka – and why not) and marmalade. The rubber’s gone. With water: the rubber’s gone for good. Beautiful chocolate sauce certainly, salted marmalade, and the anticipated walnut wine. End: slightly lengthy, dry and chocolaty. Salty toffee within the aftertaste. Feedback: excellent ‘sherry monster’. I might suppose ten extra years of bottle growing older would push it in the direction of the 90-mark.

SGP:462 – 87 factors.

And now, our a hundredth Pulteney…

Pulteney

Pulteney 15 yo 2004/2020 (63.3%, Gordon & MacPhail, Connoisseurs Selection, refill sherry butt, cask #629, batch #20/092, 507 bottles)

Five stars

Pulteney 15 yo 2004/2020 (63.3%, Gordon & MacPhail, Connoisseurs Choice, refill sherry butt, cask #629, batch #20/092, 507 bottles)

Not too certain about what that batch quantity on the label means on this context, except they’d work with the identical printer because the Harts. Ha. Color: deep gold. Nostril: completely the glory of refill. Olives, teak oil, putty, wooden smoke, fudge, some fino-y character, walnuts, tiger balm, candy mustard and tiny bits of pencil shavings. With water: some mint, earth and liquorice. Mouth (neat): G&M have at all times been Pulteney specialists and that reveals. Great lemony, bitter, nutty and salty arrival, then masala, bulldog sauce, tobacco and brine. A whole lot of energy however it’s curiously drinkable, even at 63.3 vol., or possibly is that as a result of I slightly adore this salty fashion? With water: some sweetness returns, round raisins and butterscotch, pepper mint liqueur, candy teriyaki sauce, walnuts… End: lengthy, meaty, salty, wealthy. Tobacco and oak within the aftertaste. Feedback: I am reminded of G&M’s older CASK Pulteneys, splendid drop.

SGP:562 – 90 factors.

PS: sorry about these foolish jokes concerning the printer, simply attempting to maintain all of it somewhat enjoyable in these darker occasions, with our buddies in Ukraine in thoughts.
