The second version within the Mr George Legacy Collection was distilled on October 10, 1957 at Glen Grant, and spent its total life in a single a first-fill sherry butt, cask No. 3,483. It was bottled on November 9, 2021 at cask power of 56.1 p.c ABV.

“In some trade quarters my grandfather was fondly considered barely eccentric attributable to his relentless concentrate on maturation, painstakingly deciding on the proper cask to match with every explicit spirit,” stated Stuart Urquhart, grandson of Mr George and Gordon and MacPhail’s operations director. “He was intrigued to understand how lengthy the whisky may take to achieve its peak and would have recognized he may not be round when that second got here. That’s his legacy to our household and to whisky drinkers who love the wealthy complexity of the ultra-aged single malts he laid down many years in the past.

“The most recent launch within the Legacy collection comes from Glen Grant distillery, for which my grandfather had a specific affinity. Native to us in Speyside, Glen Grant was the primary distillery to make use of a air purifier in distillation which resulted in a lighter spirit. Again within the Nineteen Fifties, the spirit would have been barely smoky attributable to ground maltings and a small stage of peat getting used – which is a method not often seen in in the present day’s fashionable Speyside whiskies – giving this whisky a charred oakiness that’s completely balanced by long-term maturation in a Sherry cask product of American oak.”

Tasting notes embody fruitcake, baking spice and orange marmalade on the nostril, with a mix of cherry, tobacco, mint and a contact of anise on the palate. “It is a attractive whisky, wealthy and multi-layered, nonetheless vibrant and important regardless of its nice age,” stated whisky professional and creator Charles Maclean in a press launch. “A worthy tribute to the person who first drew the world’s consideration to the glories of single malt—Mr. George Urquhart.”

Solely 298 bottles of this single cask whisky can be found and are priced at £6,000. For extra data, head over to Gordon & MacPhail’s official web site.
