A Quatuor of younger Iberian Glenallachie

Glenallachie

All completed / enhanced / flavoured / boosted with some Iberian wines. So long as the crown jewels should not hit, we’re completely effective. (Image Glenallachie)

Glenallachie 6 yo 2015/2022 (56.8%, Claxton's for Fadandel, PX octave finish, cask #C22049, 69 bottles)

Glenallachie 6 yo 2015/2022 (56.8%, Claxton’s for Fadandel, PX octave end, cask #C22049, 69 bottles) Four stars

Color: gold. Nostril: boosted certainly, however relatively balanced, with some fruity varnish, nail polish, new wood furnishings (from that Swedish store) and bubblegum, in addition to a little bit lighter pipe tobacco. With water: relatively geared in the direction of truffles and toasted brown bread. I imply brown toasts, plus roasted peanuts and sesame, halva, these issues.. Mouth (neat): extraordinarily fruity, with a variety of mandarin and strawberry flavour, chewy fruit candies, marshmallows, bubblegum… Within the background, a little bit leather-based and tobacco are bringing some bitterness. With water:  the PX stored behaving, that is good. Not many adjustments, just a bit spiciness and maybe extra citrus on the large fruit part. End: lengthy, on the identical flavours. Some surprising smokiness within the aftertaste. Feedback: lately they actually handle to make a six years outdated style like a ten years outdated. With the rise in rates of interest, that is even higher – so long as they do not play it ‘NAS’. Surprisingly good.

SGP:641 – 85 factors.

Glenallachie 8 yo 2012/2021 (66.3%, The Art Collection, Italy, First fill sherry butt, cask #900026, 270 bottles)

Glenallachie 8 yo 2012/2021 (66.3%, The Artwork Assortment, Italy, First fill sherry butt, cask #900026, 270 bottles) Four stars

Pretty art work by Franco Gasparini on this one. Color: gentle amber. Nostril: we actually aren’t that removed from younger Octave, it is simply that this quasi-lethal power makes it exhausting to be nosed serenely and with no worry. Plankish, however that is to be anticipated at 66%. With water: will get dry, on dry brown beers, chocolate, espresso, savoury sauces and certainly some varnish.  Mouth (neat): very creamy, oily, and but tart, on concentrated lemon juice and, properly, a sense of downing some melissa important oil. With water: actually good and certainly, extraordinarily near the Claxton’s, only a tad drier as soon as extra, with a tobacco-y bitterness and a few black tea and chocolate. Maybe was it an oloroso cask this time. End: notes of walnut liqueur and extra chocolate and occasional. Just a little Starbucksian, simply infinitely higher (apparently, they only launched some chocolate-flavoured espresso ‘impressed by nostalgic summer season moments’ – cannot make that up.) Feedback: textbook trendy work with good wooden and a younger relatively flawless distillate.

Glenallachie 2011/2022 'Cuvée Cask Finish' (54.9%, OB, Kirsch Import)

Glenallachie 2011/2022 ‘Cuvée Cask End’ (54.9%, OB, Kirsch Import) Four stars

This little Glenallachie was completed in three totally different sorts of casks, not successively I’d think about, specifically PX puncheons, Madeira barriques and Port pipes. Color: a little bit pink/apricotty, that is the Port. For those who’re into wine, say that is the color of most Rosés des Riceys, barely ‘oeil de perdrix’ (partridge eye). Nostril: maybe the perfect sangria ever – and the strongest. I am shocked this appears to work very properly. Blood oranges, peonies, some bread dough, touches of cherries (kriek beer), pears, bananas… Very good steadiness between these woods, relatively with out these small berries that crimson wine could impart and that, in my guide, do not fairly belong in whisky. With water: this time once more the whisky is popping out, with some breads and pastries. Malt and fudge. Mouth (neat): good winesky! Some strawberries this time, peaches, bellini, tonic water (it is a little bit fizzy in a means)… With water: severely, you may virtually name this a Scottish Spritz. Good enjoyable. End: extra Spritz, plus grasses. Pink grapefruit within the aftertaste, I’d say plus a little bit candy pepper. Feedback: this might be extra paying homage to ‘nostalgic summer season moments’ than Starbucks’ newest. We maintain cruising alongside the 85-line.

SGP:551 – 85 factors.

Glenallachie 13 yo 2008/2021 (56.8%, North Star Spirits, sherry butt, 690 bottles)

Glenallachie 13 yo 2008/2021 (56.8%, North Star Spirits, sherry butt, 690 bottles) Four stars

Color: gentle mahogany. Nostril: on full sherry mode, Mars bars, pecan pie, steel polish and gunpowder (not S.), walnut cake, cappuccino, cigars, hoisin sauce, candy Texan BBQ sauce… With water: actual artisan chocolate (natural, honest commerce, saves the planet, apes and bees). Mouth (neat): wealthy, paying homage to that different Distillery that begins with Glen however would relatively finish with -clas, drier that I’d have thought, globally relatively on lemon zests, black chocolate and miso. Oh and hoisin sauce and contemporary black pepper. That is a mix that is working notably properly. With water: it is actually dry, peppery and filled with tobacco. Watch it, an excessive amount of water disjoints it a little bit bit and makes it actually drying. End: lengthy and really chocolaty. The anticipated fruitcake within the aftertaste (loaded with figs). Feedback: bordering sherry-monsterness if not monstrosity, really excellent.

SGP:651 – 87 factors.
