A trio of Glen Scotia
|
|
From ‘the opposite Campbeltowner’. We should always have some Kilkerrans and Springbanks as effectively very quickly however for as soon as, delight of place to Glen Scotia, whereas hoping that any officers will not be too oak-forward… (and but not feints-forward both, ha)…

Glen Scotia 2013/2021 (56.2%, OB, 1st fill bourbon, cask #483, 236 bottles)
Color: white wine. Nostril: complete porridge, apple juice, mashed turnips and potatoes (50/50), then acidic (inexperienced) oranges and bananas. A bit fruity varnish (nail polish for teenagers). With water: vanilla and marshmallows coming out, cassata, raisin rolls, bettelman… Some candy pastry dough for positive. Mouth (neat): limoncello aged in oak. Bubblegum, turmeric, ginger, banana foam… that is a moderately uncommon, and but nice tango. With water: will get a tad bitterish, leafy, tea-ish. Not the primary time that 1st fill would not take water extraordinarily gracefully and moderately lose its fruits and sweetness. End: medium, nonetheless on greenish oranges, mashed roots, and certainly a greenish ginger. Porridge too. Aftertaste on chilly inexperienced tea. Feedback: some very pretty components, particularly the nostril, however watering it down correctly is not the best process ever, I’d say.

Glen Scotia 2012/2021 (56.6%, OB, 1st fill bourbon, cask #746, 251 bottles)
Color: white wine. Nostril: comparatively related, unsurprisingly, however somewhat extra on branches, roots, peelings, recent almonds (good cleaning soap), with much less vanilla, much less bourbonness. Sauvignon blanc, I’d have a tendency to love this one somewhat higher this far. With water: similar feedback. Granny smith, inexperienced oranges, cider, Chablis… little sweetness this time, with a vanilla that may be hiding within the corners. Some liquorice wooden too. Very good nostril this time, zestier and extra ‘vertical’ than that of the 2013. Mouth (neat): gritty, inexperienced, acidic, somewhat bitter once more. Turmeric and ginger as effectively as soon as extra. With water: this works effectively, there’s good lemon, inexperienced tea, chenin blanc this time, and nonetheless no apparent vanilla (not to mention coconut). I consider it is a good cask. End: medium, clear, zesty and citrusy, recent and with solely little porridge, ginger or dough. Feedback: superb if not extraordinarily difficult. Extra streamlined than the 2012, I’d add, ought to that phrase be approved inside tasting notes.

Glen Scotia 2010/2020 (52.1%, OB for Taiwan Twin Lions Society and Or Sileis, 1st fill PX sherry, cask #19/380-7, 358 bottles)
1st fil PX, please maintain my tulip glass and watch this… Color: gold. Nostril: burnt kougelhopf, almonds and walnuts plus oysters served ‘à la diable’, with some Worcester sauce. There positive is a few peat in there. Would go on with some steel polish, previous cash, soy sauce, hoisin, cheng-pi… Certainly it does have one thing paying homage to ‘Chinese language cooking’. Which, naturally, we simply love. With water: simply extra of all that, plus cigars. Mouth (neat): oh, we’re reminded of some older ex-gorda younger Ardbegs by the SMWS. Some earthy pepper, gunpowder, burnt raisins, yuzu (or another trendy small citrus), turmeric as soon as once more, peach leaves, salted fish, Maggi, rubbery herbs, samphire… Some motion in there, for positive. With water: I used to be somewhat afraid this would not work but it surely does, with figs showing (the PX) along with some raisins that behave. End: moderately lengthy, effectively balanced and even form of mild right here and there, which was not what we had been anticipating. To be trustworthy we had been anticipating a Frankenstein of whiskies. A grassy smokiness within the aftertaste. Feedback: I do not know if this can be a miracle, but it surely works. A peated Glen Scotia completed in PX, think about!
