In different phrases, whiskies we do not know a lot about. However let’s not make an excessive amount of enjoyable of them, as many are merely glorious.

The Legendary (46%, Blackadder, sherry cask finish, #LTB 2016-01, 666 bottles, 2016)

The Legendary (46%, Blackadder, sherry cask end, #LTB 2016-01, 666 bottles, 2016) Four stars

A single malt from Scotland, let’s attempt to discover out why it’s ‘legendary’, until that is solely as a result of they stuffed some devilish 666 bottles? Color: deep gold. Nostril: a mango-y begin that will remind us of each some Bimbers and Amruts, however certainly, this one’s Scottish. Some smooth vanilla-ed wooden, as if some heavy charring had occurred, then stewed apples and a few candy desert wine, maybe a Monbazillac, or a Cérons, and even some vin de paille. Ripe bananas coming via as nicely. Mouth: desert whisky! All grapey sweetness and goodness, late harvest pinot gris, quince jelly, a tiny mentholated and liquoricy facet, yellow chartreuse, even absinth…  End: reasonably lengthy, with a bit of white chocolate, litchis, Turkish delights, Irish pure pot nonetheless and raisins. Extra black chocolate within the aftertaste. Feedback: very beautiful, if a bit of un-Scottish, if I’ll. And what is the age? I imply, Robin, we all know strictly and shockingly nothing about this candy child!

Campbeltown Blended Malt 2015/2021 (54%, Roger's Hidden Treasures, 364 bottles)

Campbeltown Blended Malt 2015/2021 (54%, Roger’s Hidden Treasures, 364 bottles) Four stars

This child’s intention appears to be to hyperlink Campbeltown with the traditional Greek civilisation. All proper then, extra enjoyable on the desk. Color: gentle gold. Nostril: paraffin, sunflower oil, brake fluid, pencil eraser, contemporary brioche and contemporary putty, plus custard. Rings a bell that is not precisely that of ‘S’ or ‘Okay’… With water: some stale seawater, contemporary rubber, porridge, pencil lead, sourdough, Swiss cheese… Very good fermentary notes. Mouth (neat): contemporary pears, bay leaves, parsley, sourdough, pepper… With water: rounder at first, then a bit of smoky, with bitter cherries and simply contemporary wholegrain bread. End: fairly lengthy, a bit of acidic, going in the direction of riesling. Feedback: a wonderful younger fermentary and doughy Campbeltowner.

SGP:552 – 85 factors.

Secret Highland 21 yo 2000/2021 (53%, Chapter 7, Monologue, bourbon cask, cask #48, 319 bottles)

Secret Highland 21 yo 2000/2021 (53%, Chapter 7, Monologue, bourbon cask, cask #48, 319 bottles) Two stars

I will say it once more, tasting undisclosed, ‘secret’ Macallans, Clynelishes, Glenmorangies or Dalmores isn’t any enjoyable in any respect. What’s extra, we have determined to not play the guessing sport anymore, it is simply boring us to dying and I imagine that, by not permitting the indies to make use of the names, the model house owners are actually making a mistake on the long term. Color: deep gold. Nostril: a reasonably sulphurous begin, with struck matches operating the present, flints, then spent engine oil and charcoal over burnt toasts. With water: extra sulphur, gun, truffles, fuel, cabbage, matches, eggplants, artichokes, scoria… Mouth (neat): sulphur and marmalade. Robust child, jogs my memory of some Pittyvaichs. After all it isn’t Pittyvaich. Leather-based, tobacco. With water: identical. End: identical. Outdated pepper. Feedback: no comprendo mucho right here, I have to be very drained, since Chapter 7’s whiskies are normally of the very best grades. I believe I will reasonably go watch a DVD of Mariah Carey in Vegas.

SGP:263 – 70 factors.

Secret Highland Distillery 13 yo (61.7%, Whic, sherry cask, 329 bottles, 2021)

Secret Highland Distillery 13 yo (61.7%, Whic, sherry cask, 329 bottles, 2021) Three stars and a half

A bottling for Xmas (are we late once more or are we late?) and from ‘An incredible Highland distillery’. Ah all proper, they gave it away, it’s Brora. Color: gold. Nostril: ammonia, outdated chardonnay, kirschwasser, inexperienced walnuts, amontillado, small pickled onion, then calms down, with some butterscotch. Would go nicely as a sauce for dim-sum. With water: in the direction of balsamico, Jerez vinegar, salty caramel… Mouth (neat): very wealthy, robust, salty, ridden with walnuts, inexperienced pepper, tabasco and capers. Beastly, with loads of bitter and salty sherry. With water: a bit of gentler, totally led by dictatorial walnuts, maybe Russian walnuts. Snuff, chewing in your cigar, heavy bitters. End: very lengthy, bitter, on much more inexperienced walnuts. Feedback: type of closely oxidative, maybe was it a bottling for Christmas, however I would not declare it is peaceable whisky.

SGP:372 – 83 factors.

Highland Single Malt 'As We Get It' (64.5%, Ian Macleod, 2019)

Highland Single Malt ‘As We Get It’ (64.5%, Ian Macleod, 2019) Two stars and a half

Most likely the seminal ‘secret Highland’, though some earlier As We Get Its would have displayed the names of the distilleries. With a thought filled with emotion to some Balvenies… Color: gentle gold. Nostril: ethanol, varnish, vodka, vanilla, damaged branches, dough… Uncooked type! With water: extra vanilla popping out, biscuits… Mouth (neat): candy, varnishy, uncooked. Some uncooked rum straight from a column. I suppose you could possibly name this ‘a warming dram’. With water: grasses, peel, pepper. End: lengthy, candy and tough at any energy. Feedback: the rawest type of malt whisky one may consider. Nonetheless good in my e-book, however I suppose you’ll reasonably use it as a mixer. 1% this, 99% fruit juices, crushed ice, a straw and presto.

SGP:551 – 78 factors.

Final minute entry, a brand new mix (and why not)…

Cutty Sark 12 yo (40%, OB, blended scotch, 1l, 2022) Three stars

It is a new expression by comparatively new house owners Glen Turner (Edrington offered the model to them two or three years in the past), whereas Glen Turner, in flip, belongs to the very huge French firm La Martiniquaise (assume Glen Moray or Saint-James). Color: gold. Nostril: gentle however distinctively smoky and sooty, not too removed from some lighter batches of White Horse if that rings a bell. Some shoe polish, kiwi and rhubarb, granny smith, a tiny contact of coconut, oranges and, above all, with none apparent skinny grains. Mouth: a malty mix for certain, as soon as once more a tad sooty at first, with a bit of butterscotch, candy beer, notes of bananas, then oranges and Jaffa muffins. Maybe not completely a sipper since it could stay a ‘lightish’ whisky regardless of the soot, however every time there is not any Brora in the home – or certainly, Glen Moray – I say this might do. End: medium, caky, a bit of grassy, malty, and definitely not as vague as different blends. Feedback: as at all times, we might count on a model at 43% vol. for extra physique, however this certain is a few severe mix, very nicely composed.

SGP:431 – 80 factors.
