Fruity and contemporary, there’s an entire lot to parse out on the nostril, beginning with citrus zest, Asian pear, cantaloupe, and banana peel. A drizzle of honey is a precursor to a palate that superbly balances candy with spice; fruit gummies and strawberry frosting mingle with black pepper and library books. McConnell’s goals to revive distilling to Belfast someday, and this second launch helps to help the trigger. There’s purple grape, cherry, black currant, purple apple, fig, aniseed, contemporary mint, and natural aromas. Although the feel on the preliminary sip feels gentle, it fills out properly as it really works up spectacular sherry notes, whipping up the spices and displaying off raisin, bramble, black cherry, clove, and ginger spices.
