Allt-A-Bhainne 23 yo 1997/2020 (52.4%, Whisky Nerds, barrel, cask #102589, 114 bottles) 
If the Nerds have chosen this cask, there should have been some causes, and the worth was definitely not amongst them. Color: gold. Nostril: oh yeah, excellent. Honeys, chalk, grist, maple syrup, sesame oil and earl gray. No lengthy literature wanted. With water: excellent. Panettone (right here we go once more) and kumquats jam filling in some recent génoise roll (I discover génoise is a extra elegant time period for sponge cake). Mouth (neat): large and comparatively fats, beginning mineral and mentholy (previous crème de menthe present in an previous cupboard), with some raisins and dried jujubes and litchis, plus numerous different ‘dry’ dried fruits, equivalent to pear slices and apricots. A bit uncommon, however fantastic. With water: fantastic, it jogs my memory of an previous Glenfiddich of extraordinarily top quality. Allt-A-Bhainne 25 yo 1995/2021 (58.9%, Asta Morris Heritage, refill bourbon, cask #AM141, 141 bottles)
Similar feedback. Now the bottlers may have additionally chosen this cask as a result of the whisky would go nicely with shrimp croquettes… Color: gold. Nostril: fairly related, only a tad rounder, with added touches of previous Sauternes. Fantastic honeys, touches of earth and chalk, bread, quince jelly, maple syrup, small cigars, sandalwood… A fairly excellent nostril as soon as extra. With water: sponge cake! I imply, génoise! And cassata, nougat and praline. Mouth (neat): unbelievable, with a sense of previous sherry (sure I’ve observed it is bourbon) and a few liquorice wooden, gentian, turmeric and various biggish honeys. Heather first, as at all times! With water: swims extraordinarily nicely. Honey with some minerality and citrusy spices. One other staple ingredient, Szechuan pepper. End: medium, rounded, slightly extra on a blond fruitcake. Feedback: each Bhainnes are gorgeous, this one’s simply an extra-notch gorgeous. Now on second thought, I do not suppose it will go nicely with shrimp croquettes. Bah…
