Whiskyfun

I am unsure I am getting all the things about trendy Glenallachie, particularly about their ‘wooden (learn wine) coverage’. What I do know is that they’ve nice and proficient individuals (a few of French ancestry) whereas in any case, whisky is somewhat about individuals and camaraderie than about quercus and sangiovese. No?
Let’s do that randomly…

Glenallachie

Glenallachie 2009/2021 (56.1%, OB, Sherry and Rioja Cuvée Cask Finish)

Glenallachie 2009/2021 (56.1%, OB, Sherry and Rioja Cuvée Cask End) Two stars
Sherry and Rioja? What? Color: salmony gold. Nostril: it is okay there are strawberries and sourdough, porridge, peonies, chlorophyll, Seville oranges, roasted walnuts, slightly rubber, pumpkin seeds… With water: geranium, each flowers and leaves. Cherry stems, rosehip, hawthorn… Mouth (neat): candy, slightly jumbled, not unhealthy, arduous to explain, maybe a tad uncoherent, however actually not unhealthy. Unsure the place this sweetness is coming from. With water: extra chlorophyll and rubber, whereas it would not take water too nicely, turning into too dry (tomato leaf). End: medium, slightly bitter. Cherry stems and leaves. Uncooked grappa and marc within the aftertaste. Feedback: I believe I am lacking one thing right here. I am certain it is me – or the Rioja’s tempranillo. Nah, it is me, it is simply not a composition for me.

SGP:451 – 75 factors.

Glenallachie 12 yo 2008/2021 (63.4%, Signatory Vintage, 1st fill sherry butt, cask #900368, 676 bottles)

Glenallachie 12 yo 2008/2021 (63.4%, Signatory Classic, 1st fill sherry butt, cask #900368, 676 bottles) Three stars
Seen the energy? Color: amber. Nostril: there, slightly varnish, bourbon, vanilla, figs, raisins… and a variety of ethanol! So with water: croissants and raisin rolls, Hawaiian pizza (I am joking – fairly) and sourdough. Recent panettone and kougelhopf, with many sultanas s’il-vous-plaît. Mouth (neat): good and scorching. No probabilities taken at WF Towerz… With water: excellent if slightly within the middle-of-the-road (chirpy chirpy cheep cheep – should you get this you are outdated). Raisins and biscuits, plus toffee, scones and brioche. End: lengthy, grittier, maltier. Inexperienced tea. Feedback: a great drop, its predominant asset being that at this energy, you can pour it into your BMW and smoke all Teslas on the Autobahn.
SGP:551 – 80 factors.

Glenallachie 12 yo 2007/2020 (59.7%, Adelphi, refill PX sherry, cask #900827, 621 bottles)

Glenallachie 12 yo 2007/2020 (59.7%, Adelphi, refill PX sherry, cask #900827, 621 bottles) Three stars
This needs to be comparatively comparable. Color: gold. Nostril: sameish, a tad gentler, cakier, with much less sherryness. No complains. With water: fudge, toffee, millionaire shortbread, truffles, panettone. Mouth (neat): good, trendy, with some fudge and that beautiful Belgian liqueur known as ‘Mandarine Impériale’ or one thing. That one’s extraordinarily good, do you have to not know of it. With water: no large character nevertheless it works, with some café latte, fudge, raisin rolls… End: lengthy, on comparable notes. Extra panettone. Feedback: excellent, simply not very noticeable, if I could. Which distillery was it, by the way in which? Aultmore? Braeval? Glendullan? Macallan? Knockdhu? Glenglassaugh?… However Adelphi certain is an efficient signature, even when, in line with the sizes of their writings on their labels, they’re nonetheless in mattress with ‘Optometry Scotland’.

SGP:561 – 81 factors.

Not a very simple session certainly, however our coronary heart stays keen…

Glenallachie 11 yo 2008/2020 (54.1%, Duncan Taylor for Whisky Journey Singapore, Octave, 102 bottles)

Glenallachie 11 yo 2008/2020 (54.1%, Duncan Taylor for Whisky Journey Singapore, Octave, 102 bottles) Three stars
Holy smokes! Color: gold. Nostril: nicely, this may very well be successful. It is cleaner, extra on orange cake, croissants, butterscotch, shortbread, madeleines… That is easy life, that is good life. With water: add branches, yellow flowers (buttercups), beeswax and pollens. Mouth (neat): excellent, very straightforward, fairly easy, with a contact of mentholness, in any other case truffles. Was that quick sufficient? With water: pollen chiming in, all-flower honey, vanilla, meringue, Breton galettes (some type of buttered-up shortbread) and inexperienced tea. End: somewhat lengthy, cake-y, then tea-ish. Ale aged in oak within the aftertaste. Feedback: we’re making good progress. Thirty extra and we might discover a ’90’.

SGP:551 – 82 factors.

Glenallachie 'Golden Barley' (45%, Share & Taste, Whisky & Rhum, +/-2021)

Glenallachie ‘Golden Barley’ (45%, Share & Style, Whisky & Rhum, +/-2021) Four stars
To share and to style, that is the spirit certainly! I consider that is new, as our sleuths could not discover any image of the bottle. Color: straw. Nostril: that is the trick, the nearer to the barley you get, the extra you win. Vanilla, nougat, barley syrup, popcorn, maple syrup, hit apples (pommes tapées, a factor from the Loire Valley) and touches of peanut butter. Regressive therefore and thus arduous to beat. Mouth: excellent, in fact! Butterscotch, praline, nougat, halva, pistachios, Ovaltine, chamomile tea, and most significantly, no awful wines in the way in which. End: medium, clear, very caky, with beautiful notes of walnuts and marzipan within the aftertaste. Some raisins too, which can suggest that some sherry was concerned certainly, however we simply would not care. Feedback: simply our favorite thus far.

SGP:551 – 85 factors.

Glenallachie 11 yo 2008/2020 (56%, Asta Morris, sherry butt, cask #AM147, 724 bottles)

Glenallachie 11 yo 2008/2020 (56%, Asta Morris, sherry butt, cask #AM147, 724 bottles) Three stars and a half
So far as aged spirits are involved, in my ebook, the Belgians characterize the cavalry. At all times there while you want them. Color: pale gold. Nostril: nicely, Glenallachie would not simply flooring you, let’s be trustworthy. Some fats oils, some barley, some softer raisins, nougat, beer… Effectively it is not Ardbeg, should you see what I imply. With water: Mackeson’s and artisan mead. A bit cider. Mouth (neat): good butterscotch and malty nougat, orange cake, candy barley, not a lot else. With water: truffles, kougelhopf, pancakes, Läckerli. Hoppla then. End: fairly lengthy, cake-y. Feedback: THE existential query, are these whiskies actually wanted? Are WE wanted? Is whisky wanted? I imply, within the grand scheme of issues?

SGP:451 – 83 factors.

A bit bored, maybe, as Mr Pop would say, however we will go on since the place there is a will, there is a manner. There, maybe an murderer’s Glenallachie…

Glenallachie 3 yo 2016/2021 (68.3%, The Whisky Barrel, Burns Malt, refill hogshead)

Glenallachie 3 yo 2016/2021 (68.3%, The Whisky Barrel, Burns Malt, refill hogshead) Four stars
Man, a 2016/2021 can’t be simply 3, capeesh? It could be 4 and it could be 5, nevertheless it can’t be three. Now, we’re attempting this on Halloween night time (and shall publish later), so nothing scares us now, not even utter damnation and whole malty putrefaction. 68.3% vol., nicely, Whisky Barrel, my legal professionals will ship you a letter (as quickly as they’ve sobered up, which can by no means occur certainly). Color: white wine. Nostril: I believe I get the thought. Paint thinner, nail polish remover, wine vinegar, lime juice… However let’s inform it like it’s, I am discovering this curiously approachable. With water: I completely hate it that I would really like this a lot. Pristine pears and barley eaux-de-vie, beating each Rochelt and Capovilla at their very own video games. Mouth (neat): very good, so long as you solely take half a drop in your mouth. Excellent pears! With water: wow! Flamboyant williams pears, with slightly fudge, butter cream and what we name ‘poiré’ (correct pear cider). Forgot to say tarte tatin, queen of tartes. End: lengthy, on pears and caramel. Feedback: what? Face it, we have been scammed! Certainly age would not matter, so long as you already know about it (ooh my poor head…).
SGP:641 – 87 factors.

Glenallachie 2014/2020 (62.4%, L'Esprit, cask #SB 9900149, 329 bottles)

Glenallachie 2014/2020 (62.4%, L’Esprit, cask #SB 9900149, 329 bottles) Four stars
This by our wonderful French pals in Brittany. Color: gold. Nostril: butter pears, vanilla fudge, cider, Kouign-amann (some insane butter-loaded quasi-pornographic Breton cake) and Pliny-The-Elder. We’re speaking IPA. With water: good excessive acetic barleyness. Critically, that is very good. Mouth (neat): grassy varnishes and rotting bananas. Fairly excessive, somewhat beautiful, nearly bacterial (as in Jamaican rums). With water: varnishes and vinegars. Some loopy balsamicos similar to these by Mr Casari. End: lengthy, salty and varnishy, acetic, probably not regular however that is what we take pleasure in right here. Feedback: what was that? Is that this authorized? Do we now have the papers? That is whisky for nerds – nerds and cray mixologists of the world, it’s possible you’ll take discover.
SGP:562 – 85 factors.

Extra varnish… I imply, extra Glenallachie… After which we’ll name this a session; truthfully, we have to, that is turning into too robust…

Glenallachie 24 yo 1995/2020 (55.1%, The Duchess, cask #23, 'Game & Wild', hogshead, 289 bottles)

Glenallachie 24 yo 1995/2020 (55.1%, The Duchess, cask #23, ‘Sport & Wild’, hogshead, 289 bottles) Three stars
That is meant to have been chosen by ‘Watt Whisky’. Some bizarre stuff happening up there in Scotland, should you ask me. Color: gentle gold. Nostril: is not it somewhat humorous that whereas we discovered a variety of pears in that sneaky 3 yo by The Whisky Barrel, we might detect simply as many pears on this a lot older Glenallachie by The Duchess? Some chlorophyll too, teak oil, dim sums, pencil eraser, autumn leaves, grist… With water: rubber, interior tube, Barbour grease… Not very attractive to say the least. Mouth (neat): good candy pearish and beerish arrival, then somewhat greengages and slightly pinewood. Not precisely straightforward to pin down. With water: no, don’t add any water, water kills it. End: somewhat lengthy, slightly salty, malty, a tad indefinite. Feedback: excellent, simply not extraordinarily motivating. One factor to recollect is that they’ve 22 (twenty-two) million (million) casks maturing in Scotland. Which, in reality, is not a lot as that is just one third of a cask per (thirsty) French citizen. I might consider we’re about to start out complaining, which is a factor we do fairly nicely.
SGP:561 – 82 factors.

I promise I am going to attempt to put my fingers on extra official Glenallachie ‘au naturel’. CU.
