Glenrothes 1986 (The Whisky Jury)

Glenrothes 1986 (The Whisky Jury)

The forty eighth launch and likewise the oldest whisky launch till now from The Whisky Jury: a Glenrothes 1986 (I imagine the Cognac Prunier 1960 was the oldest spirit up to now?). This comes from a refill hogshead, with a mild ABV.

Glenrothes 36 yo 1986 (41,4%, The Whisky Jury 2022, refill hogshead #860002131, 203 btl.)

Nostril: a light fruitiness of apricots, oranges and ripe juicy pears, combined with beehive notes and exquisite wax. Hints of sunshine mead, nectar and dried wildflowers, in addition to some sunflower oil. Candy almonds and even marzipan. Then a bit of little bit of leather-based and tree resin. This jogs my memory of some Nineteen Seventies Glenlivet as an illustration, however there’s a touch of Clynelish to it as effectively, with this superbly polished fruity-waxy aspect.

Mouth: beautiful certainly, nonetheless displaying loads of ripe fruits. Pears, oranges, yellow plums and gooseberries. Delicate guava within the background. Very pure previous Speyside whisky however once more displaying this Clynelish-y waxiness. Some Earl Gray with honey. A slice of cake as effectively. Some polished wooden comes out, however with hardly any spicy notes. Very distinguished.

End: medium lengthy, with this fruit cocktail popping out once more. By no means drying.

This sort of previous Glenrothes is just not one thing you see on a regular basis. It is rather refined, with an amazing mixture of fruity and oily notes. As well as, the absence of wooden makes this a meditational dram with a really excessive glu-glu character. On its approach to shops as we communicate, verify the Whisky Jury web site for an up-to-date checklist of shops.
