Summer time Duets Immediately Isle of Jura |
Identical to you and me, Jura a.okay.a. Isle of Jura deserve extra love in case you ask me. There was that beautiful official restricted 21 yo earlier this 12 months, and certainly just a few glorious indies, even when a few of them have been shedding me a wee bit right here and there. Let’s strive extra of them then… |

Isle of Jura 12 yo 2009/2021 (52.9%, Liquid Treasures, hogshead, 134 bottles)
Pretty label that jogs my memory of… not kilts, quilts! Is there a hidden message (that we do not get)? Color: white wine. Nostril: in my meagre expertise, it might occur that Jura would are inclined to gear in direction of Springbank, which is quite the case right here, with this sooty, gristy, barely waxy and yeasty breadiness. Fairly some grass too, which might make you consider overburnt mezcal, different wie a leathery mustard that is fairly Jura too. Very intriguing. With water: LOL, and I imply LOL, it will get approach simpler and rounder, with vanilla popping out, tarte tatin, pear cider, and a tiny gentiany contact that at all times works wonders in my e-book. Mouth (neat): whacky, with notes of glue and mustard, leather-based and tobacco, pepper and chilli (sriracha), nicely I am positive you possibly can pour this over pizza. Some tight and tart limes and lemons within the background. With water: as soon as once more it will get a bit of softer, nevertheless it’s received extra metallic and dry Madeira-like notes that remind us of the older flat ‘squeezed’ bottles. Bear in mind? Very dry. End: lengthy, dry and sooty. Roots. Very Jura. Feedback: a bit of Sartrian. Ha, existentialist whisky… here is Camus once you want him? (not speaking concerning the Cognac home thoughts you).

Isle of Jura 29 yo 1992/2021 (47.3%, Maltbarn, bourbon)
Color: gentle gold. Nostril: extra oak, wooden, pinewood, moss, ‘a stroll below the fir timber’, a tiny contact of cleaning soap (not unseen in Jura), some patchouli and pot-pourri, crème au beurre, even buckwheat crêpes, teak oil… A sense of piney, oriental oils. ‘Outdated Buddhist temple in China’. Mouth: very tight, with some concentrated lemon juice, pine liqueur, prickly pear juice, inexperienced peppercorns, thyme and sage… This you’ll find nowhere else than in Jura. End: medium, spicier but, a bit of salty. Mint cordial and mustard, extra dry madeira, excessive fino… Feedback: one other fighter for the island of deer. Not that many have been tamed – each whiskies and deer.
