I’ve to admit I’ve solely simply recovered from tasting the official Cragganmore 48/1971 Prima & Ultima one 12 months and a half in the past (WF 93). That one had nonetheless been direct-fired, it was fantabulous and I am simply seeing that my conclusion has been ‘the place’s my handkerchief?’ Certainly, foolish as ever, however all of my tears dried away now and I really feel we’re prepared for a bit of extra Cragganmore, make that one official and one very uncommon indie.

As traditional, completed in ex-bodega Port wine casks, realizing that the phrase ‘bodega’ does not obligatorily seek advice from the Iberic peninsula. Color: deep gold. Nostril: I do not assume I’ve ever discovered this many pears in any of those DEs, that is nearly an entire tarte tatin with pears as a substitute of apples. Slightly strawberry and raspberry (jams), pinot gris, buttered compote, rooibos tea… We’re fairly removed from any type of Portness, except that will now be white Port. Huge, huge tarte tatin aux pears. Or there, this very Alsatian delicacy that consists in bits of stewed pears in pear sherbet, lined with williams pear eau-de-vie. To the brim. A contact of wine vinegar too. Mouth: a lot maltier and extra on salted walnuts, tea, bitter chocolate and tobacco, then bitter leaves. Fairly dry and bitter certainly, as I remembered it. No indicators of pears on the palate, I am afraid. Inexperienced walnuts. No traces of candy Port wine both. End: quick and a bit of dry, with cherry stems, extra rooibos, then guignolet, which I all the time get pleasure from. Oak within the aftertaste, with a tiny soapy aspect. Feedback: cherished the pears on the nostril (presto, on extra level than traditional) . The palate, as traditional as nicely, was fairly tougher to pin down.

There are only a few unbiased Cragganmores round lately, however I am glad to report that we have got one!

Our expensive Platinums… Color: pale gold. Nostril: a bit of sizzling when neat, fairly on kirschwasser aged in oak, vanilla, some fennel bread maybe… I might suppose the excessive ABV type of blocks it a bit of bit. So, with water: will get waxier, with additionally some grape pip oil, then fairly almond milk, almond peel, simply minimize apples, inexperienced tea, a drop of manzanilla sherry, inexperienced walnuts, contemporary sorrel… Certainly not a lot to do with any of the officers that we all know of. Mouth (neat): fairly on plum eau-de-vie this time, maybe mirabelle eau-de-vie, with as soon as once more a contact of fennel, maybe absinth, bitter almonds, kirschwasser certainly… Good emotions right here, even when it stays a bit of sizzling and uncooked when undiluted. With water: that is the very best half; you simply have to actually get pleasure from high-class inexperienced teas. Very complicated now, with myriads of tiny herbs, leaves, branches, roots… Briefly, inexperienced tea. End: identical. Slightly extra straight greenish/freshish oak within the aftertaste. Feedback: some unusual Cragganmore simply away from bed, with out make-up (sherry, Port…) Hope that is OK – in any case, I am fairly a fan even when it is actually not an instantaneous whisky.
