Little Duos,
in the present day Tamnavulin
|
|
Not a reputation we’re seeing fairly often nowadays, I consider it was once greater within the Nineteen Eighties and Nineties. Proof: in the present day we have solely acquired two little ones in retailer, let’s strive them.

Tamnavulin ‘Tempranillo Cask Version’ (40%, OB, +/-2020) Slightly NAS completed in a single the strongest crimson wines, what may go unsuitable? Bear in mind, tempranillo is the varietal that is giving us the well-known crimson Riojas. Color: gold, not pink, and never even salmony/apricotty. Nostril: as uncommon as we have been anticipating, quite on peach and pear leaves, tomato leaves as properly, then extra earthy wooden (barrel) and cassis, fruits and buds. Enters then increasingly more beer territories, which comes simply as surprising, however that will quite be Kriek and double-IPA. Mouth: a weird drop on the palate. Bitter cherries, extra Kriek, selfmade mead, then wine gums and, properly, a sense of sangria. An acquired style, let’s say. Slightly bitter/bitter oak. End: brief. Barrel water and extra mead combined with cherry juice. Feedback: I will by no means actually handle to accumulate this style, I am afraid. Please no crimson wine in my malt whisky (we’ll should make a T-shirt someday). SGP:551 – 70 factors. |
Please, some Tamnavulin al pure (no less than the Tempranillo makes you converse Spanish, ha)…

Tamnavulin-Glenlivet 23 yo 1992/2015 (55%, Cadenhead, Genuine Assortment, bourbon hogshead, 258 bottles) Our final drop of Tamnavulin, we’re scraping the underside of the barrel right here (a really acceptable expression, no?) Color: pale white wine. Nostril: ten miles above that Tempranilloed NAS. Fantastic woolly nostril, very chalky and intensely on sourdough, unleavened bread, fermenting plums, cellulosic varnish, then plantains and , maybe, manioc. Splendidly uncommon this time. With water: cane juice, rainwater, grist, certainly uncooked wool, Mouth (neat): very tough when undiluted, as if that they had stuffed the bottle straight from the spirit receiver. Uncooked kirschwasser, bitter almonds and bitter saps (or bee propolis) With water: a wee dollop of spent lees and unfiltered beer plus a sense of ink and linseed oil within the background… End: medium, superb, extraordinarily on uncooked barley, with just a bit citrus within the aftertaste. Lemon bread. Feedback: some earlier 1992s by CAD had not likely been to my liking, however I discover this one quite excellent. Al pure. SGP:551 – 87 factors. |
