Masam No Age Blended Malt 2020

Masam No Age Blended Malt 2020

The No Age Declared blended malt is a vatting of some previous vintages from wanted distilleries. Apparently it comprises Fifties Mortlach, Sixties Springbank, Nineteen Seventies Ardbeg, 1973 Longrow, and Nineteen Seventies Glen Garioch amongst others. All parts had been distilled between 1957 and 2001.

The concept and the whisky come from the late Silvano Samaroli. This 2020 version is bottled by Masam, which is an acronym of Maryse Samaroli, Silvano’s spouse.

The No Age Declared – Blended Malt 2020 (52,9%, Masam 2020, 310 btl.)

Nostril: complicated and delicate. The core appears to be previous peated whisky (Ardbeg, Laphroaig…) blended with stunning leathery notes, peach jam, slightly eucalyptus and honey. Then delicate menthol, some earthy and mossy notes and dusty books. Orange peels and whiffs of cigar bins. Very elegant.

Mouth: related ideas, with extra punch than anticipated. At first there are many cigar leaves and previous ashes. Later some wooden spice like ginger and cinnamon. Leather-based and natural tea. Whereas there are delicate flashes of thick fruit jams, general I’m lacking a little bit of brightness to stability the peaty notes. Black peppercorns, minty notes and previous oaky touches.

End: lengthy and ashy, with extra peppery notes and a obscure sweetness.

This should be the blended malt with probably the most beautiful recipe. I have to say it does ship a real sense of the Sixties and Nineteen Seventies and a pleasant complexity. My solely criticism can be that the peated parts are a tad loud, however this can be a conceptual selection in fact. You possibly can nonetheless get a bottle from Rhum Angle as an example (replace: now offered out, I imagine).
