Entry standards: producers and UK brokers have been invited to submit their 2017 classic purple wines from Bordeaux cru classé estates, first development to fifth development, with each grand vin and second label wines welcome.


The 2017 classic in Bordeaux was a problem for winemakers, posing a number of issues all year long together with frost, drought and premature rainfall, but it surely had the added misfortune of falling in the course of a long term of nice vintages. Georgina Hindle is Decanter’s regional editor for Bordeaux and Burgundy, and editor of Decanter Premium on-line. She lives in Bordeaux.

Vincenzo Arnese is head sommelier at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, London. Initially from Naples, he specialised in sommellerie at hospitality college in Stresa, Italy, occurring to work in prestigious resorts in Switzerland, Italy and Australia, in addition to within the UK at The Waterside Inn in Bray and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal.

Andy Howard MW is a Decanter contributing editor and DWWA Regional Chair. A former retail wine purchaser for greater than 30 years, he now runs his personal consultancy Vinetrades, specializing in wine training, judging, funding and sourcing, and has a home in southwest France.
