Octomore 10 Years (2021) | WhiskyNotes evaluate

Octomore 10 Years (2021)

This Octomore 10 12 months Previous (2022 launch) is the fifth version of the Otomore 10 and the ultimate piece within the Octomore 12 collection.

Initially malted to a modest 90.3 ppm (the earlier Octomore 10 Years was 208 ppm), the Octomore spirit spent 5 years maturing in first fill ex-American oak casks and was then re-casked into French oak wine barriques from Ribera del Duero in Spain.

Octomore 10 yo 2010 (56,3%, OB 2021, fifth version, 3500 btl.)

Nostril: a heat and nutty type of smoke, with roasted hazelnuts / peanuts and delicate farmy, earthy notes. Complete bread and toasted wooden chips, in addition to hints of seared steak. Beneath we discover some darkish sweetness, caramelized pear and vanilla. Smoked lemons add a brighter accent. Actually good.

Mouth: not the peatiest certainly, however such a heat and muscular feeling! Lots of smoke fairly than peat. Charcoal and tar. Then some crushed peppercorns, savoury notes, chocolate and blackcurrants. Some dried natural parts, a barely aromatic (French oak) contact and a delicate salinity ultimately.

End: lengthy, darkish and spicy, with wealthy smoke, oak char and a delicate bitterness (walnut skins).

A very good Octomore, among the best 10 12 months Previous expressions I’ve had. You get loads of smoke and ashes with out the sharpness of peat. The wine might have imparted some dryness however not a winey character per se. It’s solely out there from the Bruichladdich web site or on the distillery.
