Nikka ‘Coffey Malt’ (45%, OB, Japan, +/-2021)

Yoichi 20 yo (52%, OB, Japan, +/-2005)

I believe bottle ageing did it a lot good and I am going to most likely have to boost my rating. With a drop of water: many recent nuts, a contact of wax, and this little tarriness that is typically made me consider Ardbeg. Mouth (neat): flabbergasting richness but with numerous magnificence, all the time round teak and different wooden oils, bananas and papayas, tobacco, overripe apples and pears, a drop of varnish as soon as once more, vin jaune, walnuts, camphor, tar (touches)… With water: completely good and, I am going to say it once more, somewhat a bit Ardbeggian. We’re speaking Nineteen Seventies Ardbeg, naturally. End: somewhat lengthy, with beautiful honeys blended with eucalyptus honey and as soon as once more, a bit tar. Feedback: simply splendid.

Yoichi 1987/2007 (55%, OB, Japan, 2000 bottles) 
In fact I had tried this one round twelve years in the past and was a bit dissatisfied (WF 85). However that is one other bottle and as soon as once more, bottle ageing could have improved it. Color: golden amber. Nostril: usually varnishy, however completely not as varnishy as the common-or-garden Coffey Malt. Then again, it’s tarter and smokier than the 20, maybe a bit rougher, extra on piney woods (sandal, cedar) and inexperienced walnuts. Wooden nonetheless a bit loudish, maybe, a bit leather-based (new sneakers)… With water: will get inexperienced, with some coal tar, latex, bitter beers, rubber bands, uncooked wool, tyres, smoky tea… Had been on the Scuba Store! Mouth: completely big, biting, nearly aggressive, with actually quite a bit varnish this time, peat smoke, cracked pepper, grapefruits, lemon, tar… It’s a fighter. With water: fairly related, even greener. Extra medicinal as properly (cough medication). A sense of smoked and mentholated marmalade. End: somewhat lengthy, somewhat on eucalyptus, which isn’t unusual with Japanese whiskies. Feedback: I completely agree 85 was a bit too low, however after twelve extra years of bottle ageing, I would not say it actually labored its approach to the highest. A terrific whisky, however with just a few dissonances, would I say.
