Our Drink of the Week is the Fortress Bitter


The Fortress Bitter is a whiskey bitter with an Irish twist, crafted by Belfast native and Prohibition Beverage Director Jim McCourt in Charleston, SC.

Made with vanilla Irish whiskey, clove syrup, lemon and egg white, McCourt explains, “The Irish whiskey works effectively on this as it’s robust sufficient to shine by way of, however the delicate notes of honey and caramel are nonetheless seen. The nutmeg provides some nostril to the cocktail.”

Fortress Bitter

Substances


  • 2 oz. 2 Gingers Whiskey
  • ¾ oz. Clove Syrup*
  • 1 oz. Lemon Juice
  • 1 Egg White
  • Nutmeg, grated, for garnish



Preparation

  1. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add whiskey, syrup, lemon juice, and egg white.
  2. Shake till frothy.
  3. Then, pour into Double Previous-Long-established glass stuffed with ice.
  4. Grate nutmeg on prime.
  5. Serve instantly.

*Clove Syrup


Substances


  • 4 oz. White Sugar
  • 4 oz. Water
  • 6 Entire Cloves

Preparation


  1. Convey to a simmer in a sauce pan, cowl and take off warmth.
  2. Enable to chill, pressure and bottle.
