Ron Macorix is little seen within the U.S., but it surely’s been making rum within the Dominican Republic since 1899. Gran Reserva is the corporate’s high finish spirit, although particulars on its manufacturing are decidedly scarce. This bottle was procured (not by me) immediately from the distillery.
It’s a superbly serviceable rum, although hardly high shelf materials (notably at 37.5% abv). Reasonably candy on the nostril and evocative of stewed fruits, it’s dusted with black pepper and a few baking spice. The peppery notes are a little bit of a shock, they usually develop stronger within the glass alongside bolder components of pink fruit. The palate’s fairly a bit sweeter than the nostril lets on, that includes huge brown sugar components, flamed banana, and a chocolate character. It’s the form of vanilla-heavy rum that they most likely inform you on the distillery to “pour over ice cream,” and that’s not horrible recommendation right here. A easy high-end cola mixer, nevertheless, is likely to be simpler at taming the aggressive sweetness that adheres to the end.
75 proof.
