The Plum and Mr. Rye makes use of a plum shrub, rye whiskey, lemon juice, and bitters.
This twist on a Whisky Smash cocktail was created by Carlos Ramos, bar supervisor at Villa Azur in Miami Seaside. Ramos calls it “contemporary, zesty, and intriguing.”
INGREDIENTS
- 1½ oz. Tincup straight rye (or different straight rye)
- 2 oz. plum shrub (recipe under)
- ½ oz. contemporary lemon juice
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
- Mint sprig and plum slice for garnish
DIRECTIONS
Mix all substances in a cocktail shaker with ice. Arduous shake till chilled. Pour right into a rocks glass crammed with crushed ice. Garnish with mint and plum slice.
Do this: Change the whisky with ginger beer.
Plum Shrub
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1½ pink plums, sliced
- 4 oz. honey
- 4 oz. white wine vinegar
- 2-3 cardamom pods
Mix water and sugar in a pan over low warmth, stirring till the sugar is totally dissolved. Add plums and honey, stir, and produce to a low simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in vinegar and cardamom pods, and return to a simmer. Cool and pressure right into a glass jar, discarding the fruit. Maintain refrigerated in a sealed jar for as much as two weeks.
