Secret Highland 1985 (Oxhead Whisky / Dram-Addicts) assessment

Secret Highland 1985 (Oxhead Whisky / Dram-Addicts)

We’ve seen some Secret Highland Malt 1985 releases final yr, from The Nectar and The Whisky Company amongst others. A few of them had been rumoured to be Glenmorangie, though I’ve additionally seen Tomatin in some descriptions.

The one we’re making an attempt as we speak was bottled by Oxhead Whisky Firm, headquartered in Singapore with branches in China and the UK.

Secret Highland Single Malt 37 yo 1985 (43,2%, Dram-Addicts / Oxhead Whisky 2022, sherry hogshead #1018, 233 btl.)

Nostril: fruity and waxy, totally on peaches and mirabelles, with oranges and quinces. A touch of guava even. It’s barely jammy, with mild hints of pollen and valuable wooden beneath. Fruitcake and dried mint. Wee hints of dusty books and metallic polish. Good and sophisticated.

Mouth: candy and natural now. Not precisely fruity however there are echoes of plums and tangerines. As a substitute we discover natural honey and natural tea, with delicate biscuity notes, barley sugars and spearmint. Some waxy / resinous notes. Later delicate chocolate and a touch of curry spice comes out. Aniseed as nicely.

End: medium size, fairly leafy now, with a pleasantly aromatic and bitter edge and dried herbs. Ginger and leather-based too.

That is in step with the opposite ones we had. It reveals a really enticing mixture of candy, spicy and natural notes. A nicely aged whisky with rounded oak. Should you like a posh, polished and barely delicate profile, this is not going to disappoint.
