The Balvenie releases its oldest whisky ever – Drinks Worldwide

Speyside distillery, The Balvenie, has introduced the launch of its oldest and rarest whisky ever, The Balvenie Sixty, a single cask bottling from 1962.

The bottling marks the anniversary of famend malt grasp David C Stewart MBE who’s celebrating sixty years on the distillery – making him the longest-serving malt grasp within the historical past of the whisky business.

“I began on the distillery in 1962, as a whisky shares clerk, this liquid; a brand new make spirit was crammed into a set of conventional European Oak Hogshead casks,” stated Stewart.

“For six a long time it has rested and matured, now marking fairly a poignant second for me on my journey.’’

The whisky was chosen by The Balvenie’s Kelsey McKechnie, who has been mentored by Stewart for the previous 4 years.

“I’ve realized a lot from David at work,” stated McKechnie. “His mentorship has made a profound influence on me and discovering a cask to suit such an unimaginable character within the distillery’s historical past is a superb honour.

“On the nostril the whisky has a mesmerising array of autumnal aromas, lavender, heather and bracken. While wealthy toffee, roasted espresso and superbly layered oak dominate the palate.

“The flavour evolves with time revealing bursts of cloves, nutmeg, charred oak and candied orange in an distinctive long-lasting end.”

The bottling arrives in a case produced from glass, gold and brass, etched with private anecdotes from influential people from Stewart’s profession.

Solely 71 bottles of The Balvenie Sixty have been made out there globally.
