Wee duets, at this time Macduff
Not so much to say, I am unsure I’ve ever seen any official Macduff. I imply, Macduff below that identify, as there’s been moderately a number of Glen Deveron, which has all the time been a bit ‘budgety’ in France. However very long time no see both, little Glen Deveron…

This moderately easy French advert from circa 1980 reminds us that Macduff a.ok.a. Glen Deveron is the house of William Lawson’s.

Macduff 12 yo 2008/2020 (55.1%, Campbeltown Whisky Firm, The Electrical Coo Collection, sherry butt)
This isn’t, thoughts you, a bottling for Switzerland, regardless of what the label might recommend. Color: deep gold. Nostril: I have been anticipating one thing robust and actually very rustic, and, effectively, it’s a little rustic (and difficult) however these bitter wines work effectively. Very previous chardonnay that is beginning to ‘maderise’, as we are saying, then chalk and clay. With water: very chalky certainly. Flints, soot, some muddiness for certain, even bandages… Mouth (neat): it’s a higher one, because of some raisins and truckloads of ultra-ripe peaches. Sultanas. With water: good! Oranges, raisins and as soon as extra a bit chalk. It loves water and swims in addition to any boomer’s hero, nine-time American Olympic champion Mark Spitz. one by the way in which, after Munich, Mark Spitz advised the Russian coach that his moustache elevated his velocity because it was pushing the water away from his mouth. He was joking in fact however the subsequent yr, all Russian swimmers had been sporting moustaches (effectively, the boys). True story. End: medium, clear, on raisins and triple-sec. A wee meatiness within the aftertaste. Feedback: method superior to many different indie Macduffs from comparable vintages, in my guide.

Macduff 13 yo 2007/2021 (56.7%, Alister Walker Rare Flyers, Chosen by Or Sileis, PX sherry hogshead, cask #1805, 285 bottles)
Let’s hope this one too will not be one of many ‘soiled’ sherried ones… Color: wham, mahogany. Nostril: no soiled sherry, moderately cartloads of chocolate. Pure chocolate. With water: extra meaty, oloroso-style sherry, all moderately flawless. Noses likesome of those blended previous VORS (oloroso plus PX). Mouth (neat): chocolate stuffed with zwetschke spirit and prunes, plus some marmalade and a contact of ginger. With water: a syrupy texture and certainly a sweeter improvement. I had anticipated a meaty facet however we’re moderately all on chocolate, liqueurs and raisins, with some sides moderately near brandy de Jerez. End: medium to lengthy, equally candy and brandy-like. Dried dates within the aftertaste. Feedback: very pretty, wealthy, simple, completely not unbalanced.
