Weetwood have a few years expertise in utilizing malted barley in brewing their ales, and now they’re releasing their first, and Cheshire’s first, single malt whisky – The Cheshire. A creamy new make spirit is distilled from English malted barley in small batches, which has then been laid down for a minimum of three years in smaller STR American oak quarter casks for extra flavour uptake than commonplace cask sizes in shorter time frames.
This First Launch is completed off in European oak so as to add depth of flavour, and bottled free from chill filtration and at pure color at 46% abv.
The dram opens with baked apple and custard, with a lingering tropical and floral word of jasmine and orange blossom. The palate is malty and creamy, highlighted with nuttiness, tabacco bitterness and orchard fruits. You’re left with a heat pepperiness, mellowed out with candy caramelised pineapple.
