This month, Woodinville Whiskey will launch its Particular Restricted Launch Woodinville Moscatel Completed Straight Bourbon in 23 markets (MSRP $99.99 per bottle). On the time of its distillery-only launch final fall, the Woodinville 2021 Harvest Launch was the primary Moscatel Completed Straight Bourbon within the American Whiskey class. The whiskey was launched solely on the Distillery Tasting Room in Washington state final September.
Woodinville Moscatel Completed Straight Bourbon is Woodinville’s absolutely mature, Flagship Straight Bourbon Whiskey transferred into 10-year-old, 200-gallon Moscatel de Setúbal barrels for “ending”. Moscatel de Setúbal is a uncommon, fortified wine produced on the Setúbal Peninsula of Portugal, a area recognized for its best local weather for producing these wines. This “ending” course of provides notes of dried apricot and orange peel, with a honey and toffee sweetness. Candied nuts and a touch of fennel greet you for a lingering end.
Because the 2021 Washington state Harvest Launch, Woodinville Moscatel Completed Straight Bourbon was named one of many “Greatest New American Double-Barrel Whiskies of 2021” by Nicolas Stecher in Maxim. For Uproxx‘s “Greatest Bourbon Whiskey Blind Style Check” in February, Zach Johnston of Uproxx wrote, “Tasting Notes: There’s a mixture of chocolate powder, apricots, and orange that’s tempered by 5 spice and a touch of moist reeds. Candy and floral honey opens the palate as much as Almond Roca (gotcha!) and peach pits. Ripe plums with extra of these moist reeds drive the end in direction of delicate leather-based, extra stone fruit, and a barely spicy tobacco chew. My Guess: This can be a Woodinville bourbon… that Almond Roca taste word could be very Seattle and provides it away immediately.”
